Traffic delayed on Route 68 due to crash

OAKLAND TWP — Traffic was delayed for several hours after a tractor trailer overturned on Route 68 around 4:45 p.m. Monday.

Emergency responders closed the road at the intersection of St. Joe Road for more than hour while a tow-truck crew worked on removing the vehicle.

The driver, Luke Varana of Clymer, Pa., had some minor cuts to his side, but was able to get out of the upside-down cab by himself and was not seriously hurt.

“God was on his side today,” Oneida Valley Assistant Fire Chief Paul Patten said.

The truck, owned by LB Trucking of Evansburg, Pa., was hauling two metal containers of sand to a natural gas drilling site nearby on Seven Hills Road and was leaking fuel after the crash, Patten said.

A hazmat team also responded to check on the leaking fuel.

State police at the scene said Varana would be cited for failure to stay in the lane of travel.
