Man sent to prison
A Butler man, charged with raping a 14-year-old girl, was sentenced to state prison by a Butler County judge Thursday.
Jason T. Kettler, 39, was sentenced to 2 to 4½ years in a state correctional institution by Judge William Shaffer, after Kettler pleaded guilty to felony aggravated assault. He was also ordered to undergo 36 months of state probation and pay restitution and costs.
Kettler was initially charged with felony rape, statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor, aggravated indecent assault, misdemeanor indecent assault and corruption of minors after an incident that occurred on Oct. 30, 2008.
Kettler was charged by Penn Township police in 2009, after an incident at a Waikiki Street home in the Port-O-Call trailer park involving a 14-year-old girl.
Police said Kettler had contact with the girl between Oct. 26 and 30, including phone calls, text messages and physical contact.
Conversations and messages were “sexual in nature,” a police affidavit said, “and implied a desire to engage in sexual activity.”
On Oct. 30, Kettler went into a bedroom where the girl was sleeping and sexually assaulted her, police said.
