Knoch no-hits Highlands, 5-0

Knoch’s Jake Herrit and Brandon Stull combined on a no-hitter in the Knights’ 5-0 baseball victory over host Highlands on Wednesday.

Herrit pitched the first 6 2/3 innings before being lifted due to the new pitch-count rules. Stull completed the no-hitter with a strikeout to end the game.

Dylan Swarmer and Andy Pipes both went 2-for-4 for the Knights (9-3, 7-2), while Swarmer, Ben McMillen, Brandon Kowalski and Dom Bucko each tallied one RBI.

Mars 13, Obama Academy 0 — Mars continued to beat up on its Section 1-5A opponents with this five-inning win.

Jack Anderson hit a home run and collected three RBI in support of winning pitcher Will Bednar, who struck out nine and allowed just one hit over four innings of work.

The Planets (8-4 overall) sit alone atop the section standings with a 7-1 record.

Track and Field

Both Moniteau teams improved to 8-0 on the season with blowout wins over Union.

The Warrior girls won 120-26, with Kendall Grossman breaking the school record in the pole vault with an effort of 11 feet, 4½ inches.

Union’s Hannah Atzeni won the 200 dash and long jump.

In the boys meet, Roman Davidson (shot put), James Parenti (discus) and Dalton Anderson (javelin) swept the throwing events for Moniteau, which defeated the Golden Knights 113-33.

Trey Miles highlighted Union’s effort with wins in the 100 dash and 400 run.

Moniteau will host Knoch in a dual meet Tuesday.

A-C Valley’s Emma Fox (100 hurdles), Brook Irwin (400 run) and Ellie Thompson (long jump) each won an individual event, but the Falcon girls dropped decisions to Clarion (87-59) and DuBois Central Catholic (90-56).

In the boys meet, junior Chase Terwilliger won the discus against DCC and the shot put against Clarion, but the Falcons lost lopsided decisions in both meets.

Cortney Claypoole doubled, singled three times and drove in four in a 16-0 win for Moniteau over Keystone in the first game and Gabby Stewart hit a two-run homer in an 11-0 win in the nightcap.

Kennedy DeMatteis picked up wins in both games, striking out 14 in 10 innings of work.

Cameron Lindsay scored four times in Freeport’s 19-7 loss at Hempfield.

Chrissy Conklin, Kaeley Lentz and Mayce Wonderling each added a goal for the Yellowjackets.

Cassie Suran made 14 saves in net and Conklin five.
