Knoch gets past Greensburg-Salem, 1-0

Knoch's Jack Bartek pitched six shutout innings to help the Knights edge Greensburg-Salem, 1-0. in high school baseball action Monday at Kelly Automotive Park.

Bartek struck out five and received the only run he would need in the bottom of the sixth inning when Alex Altmire led off with a triple and scored on Mike McCarty's sacrifice fly.

Dom Bucko worked a scoreless seventh frame to earn the save for the Knights (2-2, 2-1).

Greensburg-Salem's Alex Shaw gave up just two hits in six innings.

Moniteau 15, Union 0 — Lake Pry tossed a four-inning no-hitter for the Warriors.

Josh Adamson had two hits, two runs scored and three batted in to lead Moniteau's 10-hit offense.

Deer Lakes 3, Freeport 2 — James Flemm hit a two-run home run for the Yellowjackets (5-2, 2-1).

Softball

Moniteau defeated three teams from Kentucky by a combined scored of 31-2 at a tournament in South Carolina last week.

The Warriors crushed Lawrence County, 12-0, and Boyd County, 17-2, but the most notable outcome from their trip was a 2-0 victory over East Carter and its phenom junior pitcher Montana Fouts.

Fouts, who has verbally committed to play at the University of Alabama, entered the game against the Warriors (4-0) with a career varsity record of 59-4. She struck out 12 Moniteau batters and walked only one, but Warrior catcher Kristina DeMatteis singled, scored a run and drove in another while teammate Sara Hull also singled and drove in one.

Kennedy DeMatteis earned the win in the circle with a three-hit shutout against a potent Raiders' lineup.

All three of Moniteau's opponents in the tournament won at least 25 games last season.

Slippery Rock 6, Conneaut (Ohio) 1 — Julianna Hutchinson singled twice and doubled to lead the Rockets (3-1).

Cheyenne Hindman pitched a complete game, allowing one run on six hits.

Knoch pitcher Celia Knappenberger suffered the loss despite striking out 10 batters and walking only one in a complete game.

Corey Schrecengost scored three times for Freeport, but the Yellowjackets fell to South Fayette, 12-4.

Braith Kiser added a goal for Freeport (3-4). Goalie Noah Freeman made 17 saves in defeat.
