PITTSBURGH — Butler Township and Cranberry Township recently were named 2017 Banner Communities by the Allegheny League of Municipalities.

The program recognizes communities committed to professional development, prudent fiscal management, transparency, accountability and proactive communications to engage community stakeholders.

The Allegheny League of Municipalities fosters local government in Allegheny County and Southwestern Pennsylvania by educating elected officials, delivering essential resources and advocating for sound policy and legislation.

INDIANA, Pa. — The Wolf Administration named Cowansville, Worthington, Cranberry Township and Zelienople among 20 Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) maintenance facilities that recently received the Salt Institute’s Safe and Sustainable Snowfighting Award.

The award recognizes road-salt management and storage practices that protect motorists and the environment.

The Safe and Sustainable Snowfighting Award represents the highest acclaim for public safety and the environment. Recipients must meet or exceed nearly 70 different criteria covering storage, equipment, safety, environmental protection and service.

The four PennDOT stockpiles were among 87 transportation facilities across the United States and Canada that received the award.
