Man charged in Wick Street apartment shooting

Butler police have charged an Allegheny County man in the fatal shooting of a Philadelphia man on Thursday morning at a Wick Street apartment, and have issued a warrant for his arrest.

According to an arrest warrant obtained Friday morning by Butler Police, David J. “Dae Dae” Franklin, 19, of Brackenridge, has been charged with one felony count of criminal homicide and one felony count of discharging a firearm into an occupied structure.

The charges follow a shooting at about 10 a.m. Thursday morning at 123 Wick St. in an apartment at a complex owned by The Butler Housing and Redevelopment Authority — an incident investigators say was over $900 Franklin believed had been stolen from him.

Police said the argument took a sudden and violent turn when Franklin met up with Rashaan Khalil “Smoke” Adams and A.J. Hoy at the 123 Wick St. apartment, and Adams was shot and killed after the men walked inside the home around 10 a.m. Thursday.

An autopsy performed Thursday night determined that Adams was shot three times: once in the chest and twice in the head. Butler County Coroner William Young III said his office's investigation found that the wound to Adams' chest was a “contact wound,” indicating that the barrel of the gun was close to or pressed up against his body. Young said his office has not determined what caliber or type of weapon was used in the shooting.

Police said the search continues for Franklin, who they said formerly lived in the city and was identified by comparing a photograph the department had on file with a cell phone picture police received from a girl in the Wick Street apartment.
