A man was injured in an accident on Hansen Avenue in Butler Monday.

An elderly male driving a Ford Explorer hit a utility pole apparently without braking at full speed Monday afternoon on Hansen Avenue, witnesses said.

The SUV, which was northbound around 2:30 p.m., hit the pole head on. The driver was reportedly found behind the wheel unconscious.

He may have had a medical problem that caused the crash, officials said.

The driver was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital by Butler EMS.

Traffic was restricted to one lane of travel on the road for about 30 minutes while the vehicle was towed.

The Butler city police and fire departments responded. The West Penn Power Company pole will need to be replaced, officials said.
