Knoch scores OT triumph
PJ Gourley hit two free throws with 2.1 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime as Knoch outlasted Hampton 82-75 in high school boys basketball action Tuesday night.
Gourley finished with 19 points. Austin Hannes also scored 19 for the Knights.
Devin Campbell hit three 3-pointers for Knoch, which gives him 99 in his career. Only six other players in school history have 100 or more.
Knoch (12-8, 5-7) led 36-30 at the half, but Hampton rallied to take a three-point lead into the fourth quarter.
The Knights outscored the Talbots 15-8 in overtime.
Mars 62, Chartiers Valley 53 — Robby Carmody scored 30 points and also added 11 rebounds in the Planets’ victory.
Ben Perdziola added 10 points and 13 rebounds for Mars (13-8, 8-3).
Freeport 60, Derry 54 — Evan Schaffhauser scored 23 points as the Yellowjackets edged Derry.
Kevin Lynch added 11 for Freeport (15-6, 10-1).
With a win Friday over Deer Lakes, the Yellowjackets will finish with a share of the Section 1-4A title.
Hickory 61, Slippery Rock 41 — Ryan Dutton scored 16 points to pace the Rockets.
Oliver Valera added 11 points for Slippery Rock.
Franklin 60, Grove City 49 — Isaac Thrasher scored nine points as the Eagles lost their first region game of the season.
Grove City clinched the region title last week.
Macros Cintron and Martin Beatty each added eight points for Grove City (15-5, 11-1).
Greensburg Central Catholic 78, Summit Academy 49 — Colby Jaggon lead the playoff-bound Knights with a career-high 28 points.
Summit Academy closes out the regular season Friday at Avonworth.
Girls Basketball
Ellie Thompson scored a career-high 30 points as A-C Valley downed Union 56-37 Tuesday night.
Thompson also had 10 rebounds for the Falcons (12-6).
Frankee Remmick paced Union with 15 points.
Private Schools
Michaella Roth scored 18 points and also had eight steals as the First Baptist Christian School girls basketball team downed Seeds of Faith 37-17.
Alexis Barnhart added 10 points and 12 rebounds.
