KC's Hegedus hits 1,000 in 56-20 win
Butler wrestlers fall to Waynesburg in team tourney
Karns City junior point guard Emily Hegedus reached 1,000 career points with a 23-point effort in Wednesday's 56-20 girls basketball victory over visiting Keystone.
Hegedus is the tenth player in program history to reach the milestone and only the second to do it as a junior. LeeAnn Gibson, who graduated last spring, was the first.
Alyssa Gibson added 13 points and Mackenzie Craig 11 for the Gremlins (13-5), who have won seven consecutive games.
Redbank Valley 33, Union 29 — The Damsels failed to score in the second quarter of this KSAC-South meeting.
Lexey Shick led Union (5-11) with 17 points. Frankee Remmick added nine rebounds and four steals.
Boys Basketball
Lake Pry scored 24 points as Moniteau downed A-C Valley 65-52.
Ethan McDeavitt added 13 points, Josh Adamson 12 points and Ross Tenney 11 for the Warriors (10-8).
Tenney also had 12 rebounds.
Joe Manculich and Jeff Ginn each scored 14 points for A-C Valley (5-12).
Wrestling
Butler dropped a hard-fought 41-29 decision to fourth-seeded Waynesburg in the first round of the WPIAL Class AAA team tournament.
The Golden Tornado held a 29-26 lead with three bouts left, but the Raiders (12-2) won all three to clinch the match.
Earning pins for Butler (12-4) were Takoda Gerlach (113 pounds), Colton Spohn (120), Jack Codispot (126) and Christian Sequete (182).
Butler was without its best wrestler, Caleb Baxter (22-2), who was out with the flu.

Chris Huff's 690 series sparked Butler's boys to a 7-0 sweep of North Allegheny at Perry Park Lanes, clinching for the Golden Tornado (9-0) the section title.
Huff added a game of 247 while teammates Shawn Marcellus (687-254), Nick Huff (668-245), Zac Twentier (633-232) and Jordan Reges (592-212) each had strong efforts.
Butler's girls rolled to a 7-0 drubbing of the Tigers. Mercedes Belch posted a 561 series and single of 202.
Nicole Nebel (555-214) also did her part.
Andrew Olczak's 551 series and single game of 212 helped lift Knoch's boys to a 4-3 victory over Mars.
Daniel Schell paced the Planets with a high game of 232.
In the girls' match, Allison Bruce tallied a 584 series, led by a single of 199, as Mars swept the Knights, 7-0.
Knoch received a single of 182 from Chelsea Cimbala.
