Rockets top rival GC, 57-43
Macy McCall scored 14 points as the Slippery Rock High girls basketball team pulled away from rival Grove City in the second half for a big 57-43 region win on the road Monday night.
McCall scored eight of her points in the first quarter to help the Rockets build a 17-10 lead.
Grove City cut the lead to 26-21 at the half, but Slippery Rock put the game away in the fourth, outscoring the Eagles 17-9.
Sedona Campbell added 11 points and Jenna Whitmer 10 in her season debut for the Rockets (7-1, 3-0).
Hannah Santom scored 20 points to lead Grove City.
Abby Fulkerson and Abby Biddle each added 10 for the Eagles (5-6, 2-2).
Freeport 45, Deer Lakes 35 — Sidney Shemanski scored 13 points to lead three players in double digits for the Yellowjackets.
Jenna Manke scored 11 points and Samantha Clark scored 10 for Freeport (7-5, 4-1).
Manke also had 10 rebounds as the Yellowjackets built a 25-13 lead at the half and hung on for the win.
Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 80, Highlands 51 — Kylie Huffman scored 23 points as the Trojanettes cruised to this win.
Sam Breen added 22 for North Catholic (11-1, 5-0).
Huffman went over 1,000 career points in the win.
Mars 52, Armstrong 45 — Planet freshman guard/forward Bella Pelaia went off for 23 points and Tai Johnson added 17.
Nicole McCloud had 10 rebounds for Mars (8-4, 3-1), which outscored the River Hawks 18-3 in the third quarter.
North Allegheny 46, Seneca Valley 33 — The Raiders (4-8, 1-2) received 15 points and nine rebounds from Erin Danik.
Knoch 55, Valley 12 — Casey Kretzer and Emily Fraser each scored 10 points to pace the Knights (4-7, 2-2), who led 29-4 at the half.
