Pry's late bucket hands Moniteau win

Lake Pry hit the game-winner with three seconds left in overtime as the Moniteau boys basketball team downed Perry, 50-48, in the consolation game of the Deer Lakes Tournament Wednesday night.

Pry finished with 25 points and nine rebounds and made the all-tournament team.

Jake Jewart added 10 points for the Warriors (3-5).

Pry had all five of Moniteau's points in the fourth quarter and four of the team's five points in overtime.

Freeport 66, Propel Andrew Street 59 — The Yellowjackets (4-3) were sparked by a 22-8 edge in the second quarter of this game at the Freeport Christmas Tournament.

Ben Beale led Freeport with 19 points while teammates Kevin Lynch and Gavin Skradski both dropped 17.

Mars 58, Horseheads (N.Y.) 37 — Robby Carmody scored 25 points to lead the Planets (5-0) at the Elmira (N.Y.) Tournament.

Laurel 78, Slippery Rock 27 — The Rockets (1-4) were dominated by the Spartans at the Mercer Tournament.

Grove City 53, Valley 31 — Martin Beatty scored 12 points to pace the Eagles in this win at the New Castle Tournament.

Logan Lutz added 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Eagles (4-4), who held Valley to just 14 points in the second half to cruise to the win.

Kameron Patterson also scored 11 points for Grove City, which will play Sharon Jan. 4 in a home region game.

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 64, Brashear 26 — The Trojans rolled to a win at the Gateway Tournament.

Warren (Ohio) JFK 74, Summit Academy 33 — Mello Williams scored nine points for the Knights (1-6).

Girls Basketball

Kristina DeMatteis scored 12 points and Emma Bair had 11 rebounds in Moniteau's 39-32 win over Marion Center Wednesday afternoon at the Punxsutawney Tournament.

Bair also tallied five blocks and five steals for the Warriors (5-1).

Laurel 63, Union 33 — The Damsels (0-6) fell behind 20-10 in the first quarter of this game at the Mercer Christmas Tournament.

Lexey Shick scored 16 points and added seven rebounds and three steals in defeat.

Elizabeth-Forward 65, Grove City 32 — The Eagles trailed 39-16 at halftime in the Elizabeth-Forward Tournament.

Hannah Santom's 19 points paced GC.

Penn Hills 45, Mars 38 — Despite three players scoring in double figures, the Planets (5-3) fell to the Indians at the Hempfield Tournament.

Lauren Wasylson scored 14 points, Tai Johnson 13 and Nicole McCloud 10.

Kennedy Catholic 50, Karns City 27 — The Gremlins scored no more than nine points in any quarter at the Oil City Tournament.

Emily Hegedus scored 13 points for Karns City (3-3) and Mackenzie Craig had eight rebounds.

Chartiers-Houston 50, Freeport 28 — Maddie Clark scored eight points for the Yellowjackets (5-3) at the Riverside Tournament.
