Commissioners OK prison pipes, park improvements
The Butler County commissioners Wednesday approved buying an additional 120 feet of pipe for $18,354 to complete a county prison project.
The county is buying the pipe from Hot Water Distributors in Pittsburgh, which already supplied 250 feet of pipe for $30,800.
The pipe replaces rotting steam vent lines in the South Washington Street prison, which opened in 2009.
John Campbell, director of county facilities and operations, said a miscalculation led to a shortage in the pipe needed to do the job.
“There was a multiplication error,” Campbell said.
The work is expected to be done by Jan. 1.
Park projects
The county commissioners approved reallocating $73,969 of Penn Township’s state 2015 Community Development Block Grant funding from housing rehabilitation to make Harcrest Community Park handicap-accessible.
The park, which is at the corner of Three Degree and Brownsdale roads, is undergoing a $540,000 project to add pavilions and a playground.
The commissioners also awarded a $5,500 contract to Widmer Engineering to design handicap-accessible improvements to the Eau Claire Borough Park.
The contract is funded by the borough’s 2015 Community Development Block Grant Funding.
Commissioner meetings
The commissioners changed the time for agenda-setting meetings next year from 9:30 to 10 a.m.
They said the reason for the switch was to match the time for voting meetings, which are scheduled the Wednesday following agenda-setting meetings.
