Knoch's girls rally for 3-1 volleyball win

Knights join WPIAL semifi nals

Knoch's girls volleyball team was out of sorts in the first game of Tuesday's WPIAL Class AAA quarterfinal playoff against Chartiers Valley.

The Knights paid the price, falling to the Colts 19-25.

Knoch then spent the next three games getting payback.

Head coach Diane Geist watched her team earn the program's first trip to the semifinals since 2013 with a 3-1 victory at North Hills Middle School. The Knights prevailed in the last three games by scores of 25-15, 25-21 and 26-24.

“We had a lot of hitting errors in the first game,” said Geist. “I don't know if we were nervous, but we were hoping to settle in and that's what happened.”

Sarah Armahizer tallied 16 kills, Kennedy Christy nine kills and Abby Pospisil seven to lead the Knights' attack.

“We started hitting a lot better after that first game,” added Geist. “They (Colts) were getting a lot of short tips and rolls at the net and we started to pick those up better.”

Knoch will face Hampton (14-4), which defeated Mars 3-0 Tuesday night, in the semifinals Thursday at a site and time to be determined.
