Butler area McDonalds franchise owner dies at 67

James "Jim" T. Sweeney, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.

He was born January 13, 1949 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late John Joseph Sweeney, Sr. and Mary Louise Hagan Sweeney.

Jim was a 1967 graduate of North Catholic High School and a 1971 graduate of the Franciscan University of Steubenville where he received his BA in Business. He was the owner and operator of the McDonalds franchises in the Butler Area, for which he received the Ronald McDonald Award in 2012 for Outstanding Performance. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Butler PM where he became a Paul Harris Fellow. Jim was on the board of PARC and Special Olympics in Butler. He also greatly supported the Muscular Dystrophy Association. He loved skiing, Doo-Wop music, the Steelers, the Penguins, the Pirates and PGA Golf. Jim was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Cynthia "Cyndy" B. Sweeney whom he married on August 30, 1975; two sons, Rian M. Sweeney, and David J. Sweeney; three brothers, Jack Sweeney and his wife Cat, Paul Sweeney, and Mark Sweeney and his wife Kathy; one sister, Lorraine Wheeler; twelve nieces and three nephews.

Friends will be received at Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA on Friday, October 7, 2016 from 6 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road Butler, PA, with Father James Murphy of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church officiating.

Entombment at the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at Butler County Memorial Park.
