Knoch HOF inductions set Friday

JEFFERSON TWP — The Knoch High School Sports Hall of Fame will induct five new members prior to Friday's 7 p.m. home football game against Highlands.

The 2016 inductees are A.J. Pagano, Renee Lassinger, Lisa Pfeiffer, Doug Clark and Regis Scheibel. The quintet will be presented on the field prior to kickoff.

A synopsis of each inductee follows:

A.J. Pagano

A 1984 Knoch graduate, Pagano excelled in football, basketball and track. He lettered in each sport for three years.

He was the first Knoch running back to eclipse 1,000 yards in a season and ended his prep career as the Knights' all-time leading rusher with 2,350 yards. He also graduated as Knoch's all-time scoring leader.

An All-American running back at Washington & Jefferson, Pagano was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.

Renee Lassinger

A 1986 Knioch graduate, Lassinger excelled in volleyball and track. She earned four letters in volleyball, was team MVP her senior year and was all-section twice.

She earned team MVP honors all three years she lettered in track, specializing in the discus, shot put and high jump. She was named AIC MVP in field events at the Fort Pitt Invitational her junior and senior years.

Lassinger also served as a volleyball referee at her alma mater, Vanderbilt University.

Lisa Pfeiffer

A 1977 Knoch graduate, Pfeiffer earned seven combined letters in basketball and volleyball. The team volleyball MVP in 1977, she was an integral part of three section championship teams for the Knights.

In basketball, she was named Offensive Player of the Year her senior year for most rebounds and free throws. She was named MVP of the Lower Burrell Tournament in 1976, averaging 28 points per game.

Pfeiffer attended Slippery Rock State College and played two years of varsity volleyball before being sidelined by injury.

Doug Clark

A 1963 Knoch graduate, Clark was captain of the football and basketball teams his senior year. He was Butler County's basketball scoring leader in 1962-63 and was part of consecutive Knights' District 9 championship seasons.

An outstanding college basketball player at Rutgers, Clark started for three seasons alongside first team All-American Bob Lloyd and the late Jim Valvano. The 1966-67 team has been recognized as one of Rutgers' best ever.

Clark was inducted into the Butler County Sports Hall of Fame in 1996.

Regis Scheibel

The first individual inducted for dedication and support to Knoch athletics, Scheibel started his career at Knoch in 1957 as a math teacher. He was the only “Voice of Knoch High School” as stadium announcer until his retirement a few years ago.

Scheibel has served as president and chairman of the Knoch High School Education Foundation which annually awards thousands of dollars in scholarships.

Scheibel is also a member of the Knoch High School Sports Hall of Fame Committee.
