Car, truck totaled in 422 collision

18-year-old injured in crash

A pickup truck and car collided on Route 422 East Saturday morning as the truck driver attempted to turn into a parking lot of a business.

The crash occurred about 8:45 a.m.

Bill Mitch, 32, of Kittanning, said he was heading west in his Chevrolet Silverado in the passing lane on Route 422 when he attempted to turn into the parking lot of Parts Unlimited.

The driver of a Chevrolet Cobalt, who state police at the scene only identified as an 18-year-old, was heading east on Route 422, also in the passing lane.

“As I turned into (the business) I thought I had plenty of time. I didn’t realize how fast he was going. As I turned he turned into the slow lane and met me head on. I spun around and he slid through the parking lot.”

The 18-year-old suffered injuries and was transported to Butler Memorial Hospital by East Butler Ambulance. He was alert and talking, according to a police.

Mitch was not injured.

The Cobalt was totaled. The Silverado sustained severe front-end damage. The truck’s cab came off and its trailer also was damaged.

Also assisting was Lick Hill Fire Department.
