BlueSox sweep on road

Butler remains in playoff chase

The Butler BlueSox used a weekend sweep of host Chillicothe to remain in the thick of the Prospect League baseball playoff chase.

Wins of 8-3 on Saturday and 6-2 Sunday have the BlueSox in fourth place in the East Division standings, 2½ games back of first-place Kokomo with six games left.

Sunday’s win was highlighted by Nolan Krivijanski’s complete game, which featured just two runs given up on four hits. Krivijanski threw 86 pitches, 63 of them for strikes while striking out two and walking one.

The Sox exploded for five runs in the top of the second inning against Paints’ starter Kevin Zullo.

Nick Stotler hit a two-run homer, Will Schneider drove in a run with a single and Dillon Sunnafrank had a two-run base hit.

Schneider went 3-for-5 and is now batting .332. Russ Clark added a 3-for-4 day at the plate.

Butler (11-13) led Saturday’s game 4-0 after 4½ innings and never trailed.

Sox’ catcher Kristian Webb went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and one batted in. Tyler Sullivan, Schneider and Sunnafrank each added two hits.

Alex Wagner earned his third win of the season with seven strong innings, allowing three runs on five hits.

Jamie Switalski worked a scoreless eighth and Kyle Zurak did so in the ninth to close the game.
