Fenelton man faces sex charges

Police: He sought sex act with teen

Police say a Fenelton man admitted to offering money for a sexual encounter with a 17-year-old boy in May.

According to court records on May 16, Gary Lee Shay, 68, allegedly offered the boy $20 to allow Shay to perform oral sex on him.

Shay, of 2817 Old Route 422, continued to offer money after the victim said no, according to court documents. Shay reportedly increased the amount of money each time he asked, offering $40, $60, $80 and $100 to the boy. Each time, the boy said no.

After the boy declined the $100, Shay allegedly reached under a blanket the victim had over him, but the victim shoved Shay’s hand away. Shay then asked the boy not to tell anyone what had happened.

On July 8, Shay was interviewed by the state police in Butler and confirmed that he offered money if the victim would allow him to perform oral sex and said the victim refused.

Shay faces charges of prostitution, endangering the welfare of children and corruption of minors. He is free on $25,000 unsecured bail, but cannot have contact with victim.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 16 before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
