Bank agrees to first merger since 1984PITTSBURGH — Officials say Pittsburgh-based Dollar Bank has reached an agreement to merge with Bank (at)lantec, a four-branch community bank with its headquarters in Virginia Beach, Va.The merger is the first for Dollar Bank since 1984 and comes approximately a month after Jim McQuade took over as CEO for Pittsburgh’s fourth largest bank. Former Dollar Bank CEO Robert Oeler retired in late May.The boards of both banks have already approved the deal, which is expected to be finalized by the end of 2016 pending regulatory approval. The combined institution will have assets of more than $7.5 billion.Dollar Bank plans to keep all of Bank (at)lantec’s employees and will continue to operate their four branches in Virginia. Bank (at)lantec’s president and CEO Susan Ralston will oversee Dollar Bank’s Virginia operations.

Toyota recalls more vehicles for air bagsTOKYO — Toyota is recalling 1.43 million vehicles globally for defective air bags, although it is not part of the massive recalls of Takata air bags, the Japanese automaker said today.Toyota Motor Corp. said it does not know of any fatalities or injuries related to the latest recalls.Being recalled are the Prius hybrid, Prius plug-in and the Lexus CT200h produced between October 2008 and April 2012 — 743,000 vehicles in Japan, 495,000 in North America and 141,000 vehicles in Europe, as well as 9,000 vehicles in China and 46,000 vehicles in other regions.A small crack in some inflators in the air bags in the driver and passenger sides may expand, causing the air bags to partially inflate.

’Burgh’s Yellow Cab transitions to zTripPITTSBURGH — In response to the success of ride sharing companies nationwide, Yellow Cab of Pittsburgh has rolled out its new 125-car fleet of zTrip cars as part of a roughly $5 million re-brand.President Jamie Campolongo says Pittsburgh Transportation Group is scaling back traditional cab service in favor of the app-driven zTrip, which parent company Transdev launched in April 2015.The main difference is that Yellow Cab drivers are now independent contractors, trading no benefits in exchange for flexible hours.
