BlueSox drop 1st road game of season at W. Va.

A day after winning a game in walk-off fashion, the Butler BlueSox lost one the same way.

The West Virginia Miners scored five ruins in the bottom of the ninth inning against a depleted Butler pitching staff Monday night to come away with an 11-10 Prospect League victory. The contest marked the BlueSox’ first road game of the season.

It also marked only the second time in 33 games in franchise history that the BlueSox lost a game while scoring 10 runs.

Jake Kennedy, Dalton Hoiles and Garret Vrbanic had four hits each for Butler (2-3). Nick Stotler had three hits and four RBI.

The BlueSox’ 18 hits marked a season-high.

Sunday evening at Kelly Automotive Park, the BlueSox made the debut of wearing their Butler Yankees throwback uniforms a success.

With the score tied at 1 entering the bottom of the ninth inning, Kennedy drew a walk and was bunted to second by Dillion Sunnafrank. Tyler Sullivan singled to center to plate the winning run.

Butler trailed 1-0 in the eighth before getting even. Hoiles doubled and Vrbanic had a run-scoring single.

More players are expected to be reporting to the team prior to the BlueSox’ next game, a 6:35 p.m. home contest with Chillicothe Wednesday at Kelly Automotive Park.
