Grove City names its professor of the year

Charles Kriley
Chemistry professor is also rugby team coach

GROVE CITY — A chemistry professor and Grove City College alumnus is the professor of the year at the college.

Charles Kriley, Class of 1988, was named last month as the 2016 Omicron Delta Kappa Professor of the Year.

Kriley called the award a “great honor.”

“It’s always nice to have your hard work appreciated, but for me it is also an honor for the many people who took the time to encourage me for so many years,” Kriley said.

He received a degree in chemistry from the college, and earned his doctorate in inorganic chemistry in 1993 from Purdue University. He joined Grove City as a faculty member in 1996.

Professor Timothy C. Homan, the department’s chairman, said Kriley’s teaching and student oversight load at the college is probably the most varied of any professor he’s known, and includes directing undergraduate research, leading international courses and community outreach efforts.

“I would be hard pressed to think of another faculty member who has served the college in such varied capacities as Dr. Kriley,” Homan said. “I am pleased he has been recognized with this award.”

Kriley also serves as faculty coordinator for the annual “Chem Show” which provides community outreach to elementary students and is presented by students each year; adviser to the Rho Rho housing group; the college’s Newman Club; and the rugby team adviser and coach.

The award was founded in 2000 by the Omicron Delta Kappa campus leadership honorary, and is sponsored by the college’s alumni association.
