Victim in fatal crash ID'd as Summit Twp. woman

UPDATE: SUMMIT TWP — The man who caused a fatal accident at 4:47 p.m. Friday the intersection of Route 422 and Keck Road has been identified.

Andrew J. Fair, 31, of Ford City was driving a Dodge Ram 5600 in the left lane on Route 422 behind Judith Fry, 76, of Summit Township, according a state police report released Saturday afternoon.

Fry was attempting to turn left onto Keck Road when Fair's Ram crashed into the rear end of Fry's Oldsmobile Alero, causing it to spin into the right lane of Route 422.

Fry, who was alone in her car, was not wearing a seat belt, and the Alero's airbags did not deploy. She was dead when emergency responders arrived on scene.

Fair, who also was alone in his truck, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

He is charged with following too closely.

The state police crash reconstruction team worked to piece together the sequence of events, which reduced 422 to one lane.

East Butler Ambulance and the Lick Hill Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Both vehicles were towed.

SUMMIT TWP — Judith Fry, 76, of Summit Township was killed Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident on Route 422 at its intersection with Keck Road.

Butler County coroner William Young III said Saturday morning that the cause of death was likely blunt force trauma and that an autopsy would be done Saturday.

He also said that it appeared that Fry was not wearing her seat belt.

The accident occurred at 4:40 p.m.

State Police Cpl. Mike Miller said at the scene that authorities were piecing together what happened, but they believed that Fry was driving her 4-door sedan east on Route 422 and attempted to make a left turn onto Keck Road when her vehicle was struck from behind by an SUV-style truck.

Miller said Fry, who was alone in the car, was dead when emergency responders arrived.

The state police crash reconstruction team worked to piece together the sequence of events, which reduced the highway to one lane for a while.

Police said the driver of the second vehicle was not injured in the crash, and was also alone in the vehicle.

No other information was available about the second driver because no police report was not released by Saturday morning.
