Moniteau's Kimmel breaks records

Moniteau senior Maura Kimmel followed up her seventh-place finish in the shot put at the Penn Relays Thursday with a pair of record-breaking performances Saturday at the Franklin Invitational.

Kimmel recorded a meet- and school-record throw of 45 feet, 1¼ inches in the shot put and a meet-record toss of 133-7 in the discus to win both events.

Moniteau had the top two placers in the javelin with Cambrie Campbell winning the event at 109-9 and Brittany Lindsay coming in second place just a shade behind at 108-8.

Lindsay was also second in the discus (120-6) and third in the shot put (37-8½).

Campbell also placed fifth in the discus (105-0).

Slippery Rock’s Brady Dalton also had a record-breaking day in Franklin with a meet-record and first-place time of 15.82 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles.

Dalton was also third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 48.61.

Emma McDermott also had a strong day for the Rockets with a first-place leap of 35 feet, 8 inches in the triple jump and a second-place effort of 16-3¼ in the long jump.

Claudia Allen was fourth in the 100 hurdles (16.52), fifth in the 300 hurdles (50.56) and sixth in the high jump (4-3).

Emma Bair was third for the Warriors in the high jump (4-7) and Collette Grossman was also third in the pole vault (8-6).

Macy McCall placed fifth for Slippery Rock in the 100 hurdles (16.54).

Samantha Hall was sixth in the 100 hurdles for Moniteau (16.58) and was also sixth in the javelin (98-6).

The Warriors’ 3,200-meter relay team of Ellie Beach, Bailey Hartle, Alex Jamison and Megan Mentel was sixth with a time of 11:22.

On the boys side, Slippery Rock’s Gunner Coleman was third in both the 110 hurdles (15.52) and 300 hurdles (42.1).

Softball

Gabby Stewart hit her first career home run and also had four singles and scored six runs as Moniteau split a doubleheader with Altoona and Phillipsburg-Osceola.

Stewart’s blast came in a 12-3 win over Altoona.

She scored four runs in that game.

Cortney Claypool tripled, singled twice and drove in two runs and Kennedy DeMatteis got the win in the circle with 10 strikeouts in six innings and also doubled, singled twice and drove in three.

A three-run fifth inning by Phillipsburg-Osceola helped sink the Warriors, 5-4, in the second game.

Stewart had three hits and Claypoole had another triple and two more RBI in the loss for Moniteau (13-1).

Megan Hepler had two doubles.

Justin Jablonski scored four goals, but Butler dropped an 8-7 game against McDowell.

Brandon Martin had 11 saves for the Golden Tornado.
