Thomas E. Bell Sr.

Thomas E. Bell Sr., 85, of Butler passed away Sunday morning at his home.

He was born Jan. 18, 1931, in Lambert to the late Charles Clifford Bell and Gertrude (Shaffer) Bell.

Thomas was a graduate of Uniontown High School, where he was a volunteer firefighter for the high school.

He would go on to own a small restaurant in Uniontown before moving to Butler with his wife and children and eventually retire from the Butler School District. He was a lifetime member of the Butler Elks Club and was involved with the Butler Area Little League Baseball Association.

A devoted husband and father, he was preceded in death by two brothers; five sisters; and his son-in-law, Ralph Crusan.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty (Hyjurick) Bell; his daughter, Debra (Bell) Crusan of Saxonburg; and his son, Thomas E. Bell Jr. and Kathy Schramm-Bell of Butler.

He also is survived by four grandsons, Erik M. Fry and his wife, Stephanie (Miller) Fry, of Butler, Sean J. Fry and his wife, Nicole (Hillwig) Fry, of Butler, Brian M. Bell of Kentucky and Jonathan T. Bell of Pittsburgh; and two stepgrandsons, Marc F. Crusan and his wife, Nan Crusan, of Oregon and Keith Crusan and his wife, Brandi Crusan.

He had six great-grandchildren, Coby, Julia, Howard, Beth Ann, Joshua and Maxwell, and he is survived by three sisters-in-law, Delores Bell of Uniontown, Jane Hyjurick of Uniontown and Joan Bell of Scottdale.

The family of Thomas would like to thank the VNA Hospice for their service and time.

BELL — Friends and family of Thomas E. Bell Sr., who died Sunday, March 27, 2016, will be received from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the North Street Christian Church, followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. There will be a private burial for close family.Flowers may be sent to the North Street Christian Church, 220-226 W.
