A multivehicle accident Monday during the afternoon commute caused a traffic jam in Adams Township along Route 228 near the intersection with Mars Valencia Road. There was one injury.

ADAMS TWP — A multivehicle accident Monday caused a traffic tie up during the afternoon commute.

Fire crews said five vehicles were involved in the accident about 4:30 p.m. on Route 228 near the intersection with Mars Valencia Road.

Adams Assistant Fire Chief Tim Llewellym said one injury was reported.

Llewellym said the cause of the crash was being investigated, but he said he speculates traffic backup may be to blame.

Traffic heading both east and west on Route 228 was reduced to one lane each.

The vehicles involved were towed away.

Quality EMS also was at the accident to assist.

“It’s usually a nice, free-flowing intersection,” Llewellym said.

A police report was not available.
