CWNC wins big
Erick Taylor and Khalil Weathers both scored twice on 1-yard runs to help second-seeded Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic open the WPIAL Class A playoffs with a 35-7 win over Union (New Castle) Friday night at Stone Field in North Park.
Keith Wells also scored on a 35-yard run for the Trojans, who improved to 10-0.
Cochranton 25, A-C Valley 0 — The Falcons were blanked and fell to 0-10 on the season.
Lakeview 31, Grove City 12 — Austin Rice ran for 171 yards and Jake Doddo added 142 yards and three touchdowns for Lakeview.
Kameron Patterson scored on a 4-yard run for Grove City (1-9). The Eagles' Brady Callahan tossed a 42-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Turner on the final play of the game.

Jonathan Kowalski, William Foley, Andrew Norris and Beau Heakins scored two goals each Friday night as Mars (5-1) shut out winless Chartiers Valley, 10-0, at the Baierl Ice Complex.
William Scurci and Owen Vasbinder also scored for the Planets. Tyler Spreng made 11 saves in goal.
Freeport 6, Franklin Regional 3 — Rob Reichenbaugh scored a pair of goal as the Yellowjackets (4-0) handed the Panthers (4-1) their first defeat at the Center Ice Arena.
Michael Frazetta, Kyle Hazelett, Stone Haberstroh and Thomas Intrieri also scored for Freeport, the latter into an empty net.
