Planet runners win TSCA title

The Mars boys cross country team had three runners place in the top 10 of the Tri-State Coaches Association Championship to earn the team title Thursday at California (Pa.) University.

John Servos led the Planets, who finished with 51 points, with a time of 18 minutes, 1.9 seconds. Caleb Keys (18:11.36, eighth) and Nathan Mrdjenovich (18:14.70, 10th) were the next best finishers for Mars.

In Class AAA, Michael Kolor led the Seneca Valley cross country team to a second-place finish by placing first with a time of 16:18.

Rachel Hensler placed second in the girls' race, helping the Raiders place second as a team.

KSAC Cross Country Championships — The Moniteau boys and girls teams both placed fourth as a team at the conference championship meet at North Clarion. Cranberry won both team titles.

A-C Valley's Shannon Quayle, who placed seventh in 21:21.2, and the Falcons John Anderson, who finished ninth with a time of 18:06.4 were the top two local finishers.

The Warriors top finisher on the girls' side was Cloey Wallace, who finished 11th in 21:51. Wyatt Geibel led Moniteau's boys by finishing 11th in 18:36.6.

Girls Volleyball

Seneca Valley wrapped up section play with a 10-2 record following a 3-0 sweep of Butler.

Paige Lambermont, Autumn Rodgers and Alexis Schmeider led the Golden Tornado in kills.

Karns City 3, Clarion-Limestone 0 — Mackenzie Craig had 27 service points and Alyssa Stitt added 18 more for the Gremlins in a KSAC win.

Brody Whited also contributed nine kills, while Brooke Moore added 15 assists.

Freeport 3, Highlands 0 — The Yellowjackets cruised to a 25-8, 25-7, 25-10 win to improve to 14-1 overall and 12-0 in section play.

Greenville 3, Slippery Rock 0 — Kortney Schaum had eight kills and two aces in the Rockets' 25-20, 25-23, 25-15 loss to Greenville.

Katie McClymonds added 42 digs for Slippery Rock.

Knoch 3, Deer Lakes 1 — The Knights (14-2, 10-2) downed the Lancers by scores of 23-25, 25-11, 25-17 and 25-16.

Sarah Armahizer had 11 kills for Knoch, Abby Pospisil six kills, Carly Bozzo 14 digs and Alley Kerkan 16 service points.

Moniteau 3, Clarion-Limestone 0 — The Warriors won this Wednesday night game 25-7, 25-23, 25-21.
