Dougherty finishes 4th

Freeport golfer competes in WPIAL AA girls

Freeport senior Audrey Dougherty shot a 13-over par 86 to finish in a tie for fourth place at the WPIAL Class AA girls golf championships Tuesday at Rolling Hills Country Club in Peters Townships.

She finished 10 shots back of Greensburg Central Catholic's Olivia Zamburno, who repeated as champion.

Dougherty has qualified for the PIAA Western Regional all four years of her career.

In Class AAA, Mars' Bridget Merten finished tied for eighth place by shooting a 10-over par 83.

Seneca Valley Invitational — Seneca Valley's Andy Smathers shot a 71 at Cranberry Highlands, but lost to defending state and this year's WPIAL champion Jason Li of Sewickley Academy in a scorecard playoff.

The Raiders also finished third behind Sewickley Academy and Fox Chapel in the four-team tournament.
