4 hurt as SUV runs into bus in Slippery Rock Twp

SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — Four people were taken to hospitals Monday afternoon when a SUV crashed into a New Castle Transit Authority bus.

The accident took place shortly before 4 p.m. on New Castle Road.

The bus was traveling west on New Castle Road. The SUV, driven by Michael Doerflinger II, 16, of Slippery Rock, pulled out of Stoughton Road, turning left onto the westbound lane of New Castle Road, when it struck the bus.

Doerflinger stopped at the intersection's stop sign, but failed to yield to the bus, according to a state police report. The report said the bus driver was unable to avoid hitting the SUV.

Doerflinger — along with his passenger, 42-year-old Michael Doerflinger of Slippery Rock — were taken by Slippery Rock Ambulance to the Grove City Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Two passengers on the bus — Roseann M. Pisano, 48, of New Castle and Stephen S. Wrona, 21, of New Castle — were taken by Superior Ambulance to Jameson Hospital with minor injuries.

The remaining 11 passengers and bus driver were taken by another bus to New Castle. The initial bus was traveling from Iron Mountain to New Castle.

Doerflinger was cited with failing to obey traffic control signals.
