Saturday event raises $7K for city police dogs
A musical fundraiser Saturday to benefit the Butler Police K-9 program raised $7,000.
Between 300 and 400 people attended the event at the Kelly Automotive Park. It started a noon, and nine bands were scheduled to play.
The city has two police dogs — Gunner and Blade. The German shepherds are handled by officers Brian Grooms and Dave Villotti, respectively.
Villotti said the fundraiser was a success.
“Everybody that was there had a good time,” Villotti said.
The city has spent $101,000 on its two K-9 officers since the program was started in 2012, according to city records. All of the money has come from donations, T-shirt sales, and fundraising dinners.
The funding goes to covering expenses for everything from dog food to safety equipment for the officers.
