Charges pile up against city man

He's being held in county prison

BUTLER TWP — A two-time felon is jailed in two new felony cases including one for allegedly stealing a car from a Butler business.

Butler Township police pulled over Delmar E. Silk, 56, of Butler about 6 p.m. Friday a short time after he allegedly stole a 1998 Jeep Cherokee from Elliott’s Tire Service on East Cunningham Street, according to court documents.

Police stopped the Jeep on Beechwood Road at Route 8 after the suspect allegedly ran a red light. Silk was taken out of the vehicle at gunpoint.

The arresting officer subsequently learned that Butler police had a felony arrest warrant for Silk stemming from an incident at a former girlfriend’s home two days earlier.

When talking to the defendant, the officer noticed a “strong odor ” of alcohol on Silk’s breath, and an open bottle of beer in the center console documents said.

The suspect admitted that he was “loaded” and had been drinking all day, according to a police affidavit. He also acknowledged that he does “stupid (expletive)” when he is “wasted,” the affidavit said.

He was placed in the Butler County Prison on the city police warrant.

In that case, court documents said, Silk is accused of entering an ex-girlfriend’s East Cunningham Street apartment, without her permission, on Wednesday.

He allegedly threatened to kill the woman before leaving.

A police affidavit noted that officers since Aug. 18 have investigated five separate incidents in which the defendant has allegedly “harassed, threatened or assaulted” the victim.

Silk was later arraigned in that case on a felony charge of trespass and misdemeanor charges of stalking and terroristic threats.

In the Butler Township case, he was arraigned on felony charges of theft and receiving stolen property and a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence.

He also was ticketed for a red light violation and driving with an open container of alcohol.

Silk is being held in the county prison on $65,000 bail.
