Restoring Middlesex bridge out of supervisors' control

They say private road is involved

Residents won’t be able to look to the Middlesex Township Supervisors for help on the recent removal of the Hillview Drive bridge.

The road’s residents came to the supervisors meeting Wednesday to see what the supervisors could do to restore the bridge.

The bridge allowed the Hillview Drive residents to easily access Route 8 via the Blue Bird Bus Sales property. The small bridge carried Hillview Drive over Glade Run, which runs on the west side of Route 8.

Residents used the bridge as a right of way they say is on file at the courthouse.

Mark Schmitt, owner of Blue Bird Bus Sales said he had the bridge removed because of safety concerns.

Supervisors said they could not enforce anything because the matter concerned private property.

“Anything that involves a private road is really a private matter,” said solicitor Mike Hnath. “It involves our residents, but these are rights the private property owners have.”

One comment was made about signs being on the road for emergency service vehicles. One sign stands on the road now.

Supervisors Chairman Mike Spreng said while he’s not sure where the residents can go to next to voice their concerns, residents should “join together as a community.”

“I don’t know how we can (enforce anything),” Spreng said. “It’s out of our hands.”
