Helane Ruth “Laney” (Hindman) Hay, 83, of Butler, went to be with the Lord Saturday at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long battle with Lewy body dementia.

She was born March 23, 1932, in Butler, to Paul Hindman and Ruth (Love) Hindman.

Helane was a graduate of Butler High School. Before her retirement, she had been employed at A-Penn Oil Company, Colonial Gardens, Greenwood Manor and Castle Rubber. She was a member of the Nixon United Methodist Church. Helane enjoyed traveling, bowling and gardening.

Helane is survived by two daughters, Pamela Smith and her husband, Larry, of Butler and Deborah Hay of Slippery Rock; one grandson, Shawn Fennell; two great-grandchildren, Colin and Logan Fennell; two sisters, Kitty Walker and her husband, Richard, and Paula Stepp, both of Butler; two nieces, Brenda Becker and Tracy Gohn; and two nephews, Mark Walker and Greg Stepp.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth D. Hay, who she married Jan. 27, 1951, and who passed away Aug. 19, 1998; and a nephew, Richard Walker.

HAY — Friends of Helane Ruth “Laney” (Hindman) Hay, who died Saturday, July 25, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 124 E. North St., Butler, with the Rev. Bruce K. Merritt, pastor of Fells United Methodist Church in Belle Vernon, Pa., officiating.Burial will follow at the Brownsdale Cemetery.Memorials are suggested to the Nixon United Methodist Church, 334 Airport Road, Butler, PA 16002.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
