BlueSox split pair on road

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Grove City High School graduate Matt Gordon threw seven shutout innings to lead Butler to a 2-0 Prospect League victory over host Jamestown (N.Y.) Sunday afternoon.

The right-hander struck out five, walked none and allowed six hits — all singles — in his first appearance for the team.

The effort helped the BlueSox salvage a split in the two-game series. On Saturday, the Jammers gained a 3-2 win.

In Sunday's victory, Butler got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning. Jamie Switalski tripled and scored on a Jamestown error.

Nick Rabat's sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth frame plated Matt Hansen with the game's final run. Butler (10-6) won despite managing just three hits in the game.

Cody Jackson worked a scoreless eighth, stranding runners at second and third in the process.

Zach Spangler earned his 15th save of the season by closing the door on the Jammers in the bottom of the ninth. Spangler needs one more save to tie the league record for saves in a season.

Jamestown scored all three of its runs Saturday in the bottom of the second inning off of Butler starter and eventual losing pitcher Connor Coward.

Coward gave up six hits, struck out eight and walked four in seven innings.

The Sox tallied five hits, including two singles from Switalski.
