BUTLER TOWNSHIP — 82 Cub Scouts participated in a day camp that spanned four days earlier this month at Alameda Park. The camp ran from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 7 to July 10 and featured opportunities for scouts to earn badges by rotating through stations throughout the week, including shooting BB guns and bows, racing CO2-powered pinewood derby cars and cooking over open coals. While these stations were daily activities, there was a special time allotted for an unique activity each day.Butler County District Director Irvin Gable said the Almeda camp hosted Northern Butler County scouts, but there will be another later in July for Southern Butler County scouts hosted in Zelienople. He said the Almeda camp had a wild west theme that the adult supervisors helped emphasize. He said the supervisors embraced the camp's idea.“We have tremendous volunteers.” Gable said.Gable said the Scouts were enthusiastic and stayed interested throughout camp.“The group of kids this year were ecstatic,” he said. “I think this year was probably one our best ever.”
