Auto mechanic accused of dishonest practices

LYNDORA — A mechanic has been charged criminally for allegedly being dishonest about the condition of the brakes on a customer’s car.

According to court records, the victim, a 29-year-old Prospect woman, took her 2006 Chrysler Town & Country to Ellis Suzuki on Hansen Avenue because she was eligible to have her car’s state inspection done there for free. The woman was told her car had failed and needed repairs to pass.

Specifically, she was told her brakes were inadequate and there were issues with her rocker panel and muffler.

According to court records, the woman took the vehicle to a different mechanic where the rocker panel and muffler were repaired. However, it was determined that the front brake pads and rotors did not need replaced, the court records say.

The mechanic, Michael J. Brenneman, 24, of Chicora, is charged with deceptive or fraudulent business practices, tampering with records and attempted theft.

Ellis Suzuki was cited for conducting dishonest business, according to a statement by state police.
