Butler Police

11:41 a.m. Friday — A car driven by Aaron M. Huggins, 26, of Butler struck the back of a vehicle driven by Brad L. Cowen, 52, of Butler when Cowen was stopped for traffic on West Cunningham Street at its intersection with South Jackson Street.

A passenger in Cowen’s vehicle, Brittney Rudolph, 31, of Butler, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.

Huggins was cited for careless driving.

2 a.m. April 4 — Frederic W. Betts, 42, of Butler was cited for theft after he allegedly stole scrap metal from a residence in the 400-block of Shore Street. City police used surveillance video to view a man carrying a garbage bag in the area that morning, but they were unable to identify the suspect.

However, Betts was later identified when police responded to a separate report of a suspicious individual on Hazel Avenue early Saturday morning. Police found Betts there wearing the same clothes as the thief in the previous video.

Betts admitted to stealing the scrap during that prior incident, police said. He sold the metal to a scrap yard for $3.

He was cited and released.

State Police, Butler

9:48 p.m. Thursday — An SUV driven by Timothy P. Sweeny, 38, of Connoquenessing crashed into a tree along Reibold Road, north of Timko Lane in Forward Township. Sweeny told police he swerved to miss a deer. He was cited for a traffic lane violation.

Thursday — Someone used three fake $20 bills at the Herman Mini Mart in Summit Township. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 724-284-8100.

5:10 p.m. Wednesday — The state police fire marshal in Butler is investigating the cause of a fire that damaged a home owned by James Schrecengost, 51, of Chicora on Little Road in Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County. Sasha Schrecengost, 23, is the tenant in the home.

Damage is estimated at $50,000. No injuries were reported.

Wednesday — Someone stole the license plate off a tractor-trailer at Ram Transit Lines on S. Noah Drive in Clinton Township. The theft occurred sometime between March 1 and Wednesday while the vehicle was parked in the rear parking area of the business.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 724-284-8100.

9:35 p.m. April 12 — Shawn L. Reges, unknown age or address, was arrested for suspected DUI on South 9th Street in Butler. Charges are pending.

State Police, Mercer

3:30 p.m. Friday — Steven L. Williams, 28, of Corsica was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance following a traffic stop on Interstate 80, near mile-marker 22 in Pine Township, Mercer County.

Cranberry Twp. Police

3:30 p.m. Friday — Township police and EMS responded to a two-vehicle accident on Cranberry Square Drive near Huntington National Bank. One of the vehicles had children inside and had its air bags deployed, so paramedics responded.

No one was taken away in an ambulance.

No other information was available.
