Jamison finishes 3rd in contest

Finalist Chris Jamison performs Monday during season 7 on NBC's “The Voice” in Los Angeles. Craig Wayne Boyd was named the competition's winner Tuesday. Jamison, who finished third, may return home to the North Hills later this week.
Proud family members say 'quite an experience'

While Chris Jamison came in third Tuesday night among the four finalists on NBC’s “The Voice,” his Butler County family members are just a little sad, but mainly proud.

“We were a little disappointed. Well, a lot, actually,” said his grandmother, Barb Stanko of Butler. “But Chris will be fine.”

Jamison, 20, of the North Hills, gave his final competitive performances on the show Monday night. The votes were totaled and the winner revealed Tuesday night.

As the three final contestants — and millions of the show’s fans — anxiously awaited the announcement that would reveal who would take third place on “The Voice,” Jamison threw an arm around each of his fellow competitors in a show of support.

“He has stayed humble through the whole ordeal,” said his grandmother, Joanne Jamison of Evans City. “It was quite an experience, but the whole family is extremely proud of him.”

After country singer Craig Wayne Boyd was named the winner, Jamison led the audience in the overhead clapping as Boyd sang his signature song, “My Baby’s Got a Smile on Her Face.”

Jamison’s grandfather, Bob Jamison, agreed with all the relatives regarding his grandson’s bright future as a result of his experience on “The Voice.”

“I had a feeling that country music boy was going to win,” Jamison said, “but the door is open for Chris. Now he can go places he didn’t think he could ever go.”

His aunt Kelly Somerville of Butler said being trained by top recording artists during the show, plus the performance experience, has provided Jamison with advantages that singers only dream of.

“He’s had the time of his life over the past year, and has been mentored by several of the best and gained a ton of experience,” Somerville said. “I think he’ll be a success no matter what path he chooses.”

Somerville said her favorite part of Tuesday night’s show was Jamison’s duet with British pop star Jessie J. The two sang her hit, “Masterpiece.”

“His performance with her was just awesome,” Somerville said.

Stanko said Jamison’s parents, Butler natives Bryan and Michelle Jamison, will return home today. She said Chris may be returning this week.

“He said he just wants to lay down on his sofa and be with his family,” Stanko said. “We’ll be glad to have him home.”

She said Jamison was aware of the support from Butler and the surrounding area, and people who are acquainted with his family members who have never met him.

“I just feel he has been blessed in so many ways, and so have we,” she said.

Family members gathered weekly at John’s Bar near Evans City to watch Jamison perform during the competition which lasted several months.

Stanko said she is excited to see where the amazing experience on “The Voice” will take her grandson in the future.

“It will be all up to him now,” she said.

Boyd won a recording contract, and all four finalists won a car.
