Donald A. Macurdy, 87, of Buffalo Township passed away peacefully Tuesday at his home.

Donald was born on Dec. 4, 1926, on his family's farm in Sarver. He was the only son of the late Agnes Denny and Arthur I. Macurdy.

Don was the widower of Charmaine D. Eichelaub Macurdy, who passed away in 2011.

He was a member of the St. Mary, Mother of God Church in Freeport.

Don served as a private in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, Don worked in the maintenance department for PPG Industries in Creighton. He retired in 1988 after 45 years of service.

Don was a member of the American Legion in Natrona. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons. He also enjoyed gardening, mowing grass and spending time with his family.

Don is survived by his four sons, Harold A. Macurdy of Buffalo Township, Mark A. (Amy) Macurdy of Raleigh, N.C., Scott D. (Joyce) Macurdy of Butler, and Neal E. (companion Elaine) Macurdy of Buffalo Township, and his three daughters, Dawn Marie (George) Billman of Palo, Calif., Laurie A. Kolish of Buffalo Township and Beth A. Macurdy of Buffalo Township. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren; his four great-grandchildren, and his two sisters, Stella Ann Romano of Lower Burrell and Maxine (Stanley) Kowalski of Natrona.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, William E. Kolish, and his three sisters, Norma Jean Ohl, Gladys “Kate” Macurdy and Marian Stempkowski.

Macurdy — The family and friends of Donald A. Macurdy, who passed away Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Redmond Funeral Home, 524 High St., Freeport.A parting prayer service will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at the St. Mary, Mother of God Church, 608 High St., Freeport, with the Father Edward Volz officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Freeport.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary, Mother of God Church, 608 High St., Freeport, PA 16229, or to VITAS Innovative Hospice Care of Pittsburgh, 235 Alpha Drive, Suite 101, Pittsburgh, PA 15238.
