SLIPPERY ROCK — The Internations Club and the Office for Global Engagement at Slippery Rock University will continue a 40-year tradition and host the annual International Dinner Nov. 8.

The 7 p.m. dinner will honor Eric Wikramanayake, an SRU graduate, as the Outstanding International Student Alumni Award winner.

International student scholarship recipients and donors will also be recognized at the event in the Smith Student Center's ballroom.

Wikramanayake earned his bachelor of science degree in 1979 and his master of science in biology from SRU in 1981.

Wikramanayake is a conservation biologist/co-principal investigator with an elephant research project in Sri Lanka and the author/co-author of more than 100 publications, reports or manuscripts.

In honor of the anniversary, the dinner will include more than 40 dishes made from recipes supplied by SRU international students and their families.

Only 350 tickets will be sold and cost $25; $15 for SRU students; and $10 for children younger than 12. Tickets are available at the center's information desk.

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company's annual craft show will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 8 at the fire hall, 162 Elm St.The event will feature food, craft vendors and a basket auction.For more information, call Tori Taggart at 724-421-5973.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Author and former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell will bring his personal story as the “Lone Survivor” of a secret 2005 Afghanistan military mission to the Slippery Rock University Student Center at 8 p.m., Nov. 12.Luttrell's memoir, presented in his 2007 book “Lone Survivor,” was the basis for the 2013 movie of the same time.In 2005, Luttrell, a Texas native, and three other Navy SEALS were assigned to kill or capture a high-ranking Taliban commander.Everyone but Luttrell died during a gunbattle. When rescue helicopter was dispatched, it was shot down, and all of the men aboard killed.Luttrell, who was badly wounded, walked and crawled 7 miles to evade capture. He was given shelter by an Afghan tribe, who alerted American forces of his presence.Then-President George W. Bush awarded Luttrellthe Navy Cross.The University Program Board, the Student Veterans Association and the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership are sponsoring the lecture.Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $6 and $3 for SRU students and are available from the center information desk. There is a two-ticket limit per buyer.

GROVE CITY — Mike Bright, Grove City College engineering department chairman, and Anthony Molinaro, Hillview Intermediate Center music teacher, are recipients of the Grove City College Florence E. MacKenzie Campus Community Awards.They will be honored at a ceremony on campus Nov. 18.Campus honoree Bright founded and is a Hub director for Wolverine BEST Robotics (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology), a program that brings high school students and faculty to campus for engineering competition and instruction.Community honoree Molinaro is the elementary general and choral teacher for the Grove City School District.He works closely with Grove City College students seeking field experience for their future teaching careers. He has developed a unique curriculum based on the Dalcroze Method of music education, and also lectures on this method at Grove City College.
