Grants benefit housing

Authority gets $400K from Pa.

The Butler County Housing and Redevelopment Authority has received two state grants to benefit its Owner Occupied Residential Rehabilitation and First Time Homebuyer programs.

The authority received $300,000 for its rehabilitation program in Clearfield, Donegal and Summit townships. The program will provide a grant up to $15,000 to qualified low income families who own and occupy their homes, according to a housing authority news release.

The authority alternates areas of the county that are targeted in the program.

Butler County First Time Homebuyer Down Payment/Closing Cost Assistance Program was awarded a $100,000 grant. The program will help low to moderate income families own a home.

With this program, the authority matches up to 50 percent of the total costs of closing on a home. Potential homebuyers could be eligible to receive up to $5,000 toward their home purchase, the release states.

The county commissioners also are funding the two programs. The county will give $75,000 to the Owner Occupied program and $100,000 for the First Time Homebuyer program.

For information on these programs, contact the authority at 724-287-6797 or visit www.housingauthority.com.
