PORTERSVILLE — Route 488 is closed in both directions in the borough between Route 19 and Stanford Road because of a traffic accident and downed utility wires.

The accident happened at 2:50 a.m. when a vehicle hit a utility pole, snapping the pole in two and causing the wires to fall.

A detour is in place using State Road 422 West to State Road 19 South.

The state Department of Transportation in Butler Township said it is waiting for the utility company to clear the lines.

The road is expected to reopen by 10 a.m.
