WAMPUM, Lawrence County — An 11-year-old boy has been charged by state police in New Castle in the shooting deaths Friday of a New Galilee woman and her unborn child.
Jordan Anthony Brown, 11, of New Galilee is in the Lawrence County Jail after being charged with criminal homicide and criminal homicide of an unborn child in the death of Kenzie Marie Houk, 26.
Police were alerted by a tree trimming service about 10 a.m. Friday that a woman had been shot at 1146 Wampum New Galilee Road in New Beaver.
According to a police report, the tree service was alerted to the woman's body by a 4-year-old child.
Upon responding to the residence, police discovered Houk with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Houk was in her eighth month of pregnancy and the unborn child died from a lack of oxygen, according to state police.
As of Friday night, police were still seeking anyone who had seen suspicious activity in the Wampum area before arresting Brown about 3 a.m. Saturday morning.
The boy's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
