Sugarcreek fire limited to one room

SUGARCREEK TWP, Armstrong County — Four fire departments this morning responded to a fire at 667 Glynn Road.
A spare room in the one-story manufactured home caught fire about 11:30 a.m., but it was extinguished within 30 minutes.
"It was a slow starting fire. The fire damage is limited to the spare room, but the rest of the house is definitely going to have smoke damage," said Leroy Myers, chief of the Sugarcreek Township Volunteer Fire Company.
No one was injured.
Homeowner Dan Hepler was at work when the fire sparked, but he was alerted by roommate Mike Chaplin, who escaped the home unharmed.
"He called me at work to let me know he smelled smoke in the house, then I called 911 on my cell phone," Hepler said.
By 1 p.m., about 20 firefighters from Sugarcreek Township, Petrolia, East Brady and Chicora were clearing debris from inside the house and extinguishing hot spots. That included knocking out the wall of the front spare room where the blaze began.
Sugarcreek Ambulance also assisted on the scene.
Myers said no damage estimate is yet available and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
