Volunteers remove 300 tires, loads of trash from creek
The Allegheny Aquatic Alliance held its 10th annual Connoquenessing Creek Cleanup on Saturday, and loads of refuse were once again pulled from the scenic waterway.
Alliance board member James “Rip” Davis said more than 300 tires and a large industrial dumpster load of trash were removed from the section of the creek between the Oneida Reservoir and the Eckstein Road canoe and kayak launch in Forward Township.
In its decade of creek cleanups, the Alliance and its volunteers have pulled 627,000 pounds of trash and 7,500 tires from the Connoquenessing, which runs from the Oneida Reservoir to the Beaver River in Ellwood City, Lawrence County.
About 70 volunteers turned out on Saturday to help with the cleanup.
Penna Flame Industries in Zelienople was the major sponsor for the 2021 creek cleanup.
