Town Crier: South Butler

South Butler County School Board on Wednesday night:

Approved a contract with Paychex to provide payroll services at a biweekly cost of $731.05, monthly rate of $342.85, annual fee of $953.05 and a one-time set-up fee of $1,375. The agreement is pending solicitor review. Superintendent David Foley said using a third-party contractor will be more cost effective than hiring an employee in-house to do payroll, as has been the practice in the past. He said the Paychex system will be tried out on the summer employees before being implemented in the fall.

Heard Foley request the board approval at next week’s meeting a temporary emergency resolution that would allow him to re-institute remote learning again, should another lockdown be necessary or if so many teachers and staff are out sick that students cannot be educated at a school building. Foley said in the unlikely event that students are sent home to learn, teachers will no longer livestream classes. He said the board will not likely vote on the measure at next week’s board meeting because requirements at the state level are expected to change.
