1 injured in 3-vehicle accident on Route 8
BUTLER TWP — A three-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon on Route 8 sent one person to the hospital.
A woman who was driving a Jeep was taken by ambulance to the hospital for unknown injuries after being involved in an accident with two pickup trucks around 2:12 p.m. at the intersection of Route 8 and Vogel Road.
The Jeep had apparent front-end damage; meanwhile, a Dodge Ram had also flipped onto its driver's side during the accident, and fire crews worked to extract its driver.“We tried to cut the windshield out, but he couldn't get his legs out, so we had to take the roof off partially,” said Butler Township Fire District Fire Chief Kevin Smith. “We stabilized the vehicle, and then we cut the roof so the guy could get out.”The Dodge's driver exited the vehicle, entered and then exited an ambulance. He was later seen walking around the scene and talking with Butler Township Police officers investigating the crash.
The driver of the third vehicle, a Ford F-350 with a trailer, also appeared uninjured.The Ford showed front-end damage, while the Dodge showed damage to the rear of the truck, in addition to its entire driver's side.The vehicles were moved to the parking lot of the nearby Sheetz, clearing obstructed traffic around 3:10 p.m.Firefighters had blocked traffic entirely on Vogel Road and a portion of the right-hand lane of Route 8 northbound during the investigation and cleanup.
