BREAKING: PIAA approves high school fall sports season

The PIAA Board of Directors has voted 30-2 to move forward with fall high school sports this year after going over and approving a 24-page document covering return to competition guidelines. The number of qualifiers for fall sports postseason play will be reduced, however.

Specific protocols in the return to competition guidelines have not been released to the media.

PIAA executive director Robert Lombardi cautions that more guidance could be forthcoming from Gov. Tom Wolf concerning fans and media at fall high school sporting events.

Districts have the option of beginning the fall sports season at a later date — football on Sept. 11 instead of Aug. 28, for example — if they so choose.
