Motorists who use McCalmont Road should seek alternate route

PennDOT in Butler County is urging motorists who typically use McCalmont Road in Butler Township to seek an alternative route this morning.

The road was closed overnight after a large truck got stuck under a bridge that travels over the road and caused serious damage Monday evening and remains closed this morning. Officials report a crane will will need to be brought in to remove the vehicle, and Canadian National Railway just arrived on scene with a crew.

Steve Kernic with PennDOT in Butler County advised that the road will remain closed for most of Tuesday as officials assess the damages.

The accident occurred about 5:20 p.m. Monday when a large truck got stuck underneath a railroad trestle bridge on McCalmont Road near the Connoquenessing Creek, about halfway between Route 8 and Meridian Road.
