Tjark Bartels, the former county commissioner of Hameln, Germany, will discuss current German/Jewish relations and migrant resettlement in Germany at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Congregation B’Nai Abraham, 519 N. Main St.
In his former position as county commissioner of Hameln, Bartels was a strong supporter of the Jewish community, especially of Rachel Arnovitz Dohme, a Butler native who founded the first newly-constructed Reform synagogue in postwar Germany.
The event is free, but microwavable packs of macaroni and cheese are being collected for weekend backpacks for schoolchildren with food insecurity.
